Shadow Catchers

Throughout my recent drawing and stitched samples I have been applying repatition of linear marks, in relation to the idea of a film being representative of a linear movement of time. Within the elements of image making light has been an important tool of manipulation, as seen in these images I have applied linear cutwork to sheets of acetate, and photographing them as moulded forms in direct sunlight. This was the best lighting conditions in which to photograph the samples. Photographing my more minimal and invisible samples has proven rather difficult as the subtle marks are lost in the light. However these samples adjusted to the light in order to reflect their intricate detail by casting shadows when layered over the top of each other. I have also experimented with film, shadow and linear movements.
